big score to win the day

TOP EFFORTS: Division 1 winner Annette Ford, Division 2 winner Karen Panagopolous and Division 2 runner-up Jaynee Oberer.

WITH the forecast looking a little ominous, numbers were slightly down for the women’s stableford competition at the Blue Lake Golf Club last week.

Fortunately for those who braved the elements the weather cleared halfway through and some excellent results made it all worthwhile.

The score of the day came from Division 2’s Karen Panagopolous, with 42 points coming on the back of being runner-up in the recent championship finals.

Division 1 winner Annette Ford had to wait on a count-back from Geraldine Scott after both scored a credible 36 points.

Ford’s outward nine was a little low on 15 points but she turned it around on the inward nine with pars on the 12th, 14th and 17th holes for 21 points.

Scott did the complete opposite scoring 21 points on the outward nine which included pars on the third and fifth holes to add 15 points on the inward nine.

Handicapper Dianne Perryman followed closely with 35 points.

Sue Agars claimed the nearest to pin second shot as well as the pro shot and the novelty prize for the most accurate fairway drives.

Panagopolous, off a handicap of 32, is another sure to edge her way into Division 1 in the next few weeks, dropping her handicap on a regular basis and with a massive 42 points recorded on her last outing it will be sooner rather than later.

She scored two even nines of 21 points a piece with pars on the par 3 downhill fifth hole and the dogleg par 4 15th.

New member Jaynee Oberer would also be pleased with her 40 points, especially on the outward nine with a massive 24 points, having pars on the first and second holes but unfortunately fell away a little on the inward nine with 16 points.

Carol Melhuish would be a little disappointed as on any other day 38 points, splits of 20/18, would be good enough to top the podium.

Oberer was her division’s nearest to pin winner.

A reminder the BLGC presentation night is on Friday, November 19.
