Varied results for Mount

GOOD FORM: Bryan Vorwerk sends down a bowl as the Mount Gambier Blue side claimed a strong victory over Millicent on Saturday.

The Lower South East Bowls Association mid-week Open competition continued with Round 4 played last week.

The Mount Gambier Bowls Club enjoyed mixed results, as the Red side travelled down the Bay Road to take on Port MacDonnell Red.

They were able to win narrowly on the Ian Von Stanke skippered rink but were not able to cover the other rink and returned home with two points and a 54-40 shot loss.

The Blue side travelled to Millicent to face the local Blues and continued their good recent form to record a narrow 43-41 win and banked six points.

The rink of Darryl Little, Maryka Heaver, Peter Clark and Steve Farrell secured the narrow win with a 25-21 victory.

The two Mount Gambier teams have started the season well and both sit in the top four with three wins and a loss.

The women’s Pennant Round 4 action on Friday saw the trip to Naracoorte RSL another good effort on both rinks, especially the Beryl Versluis skippered rink fighting to the end for a one-shot loss.

The overall score of 52-41 loss did not reflect how close the game was.

Round 4 of Saturday’s Open Pennant had Mount Gambier Division 1 Reds travel down to Port MacDonnell and with two good rink wins were able to secure a 87-52 victory.

The highlight was the rink of Mick Ashby, Kristy Errock, Peter Reppin and Adam Wilson securing a 35-16 victory over the local rink skippered by Heather Richards.

The Reds returned home with 10 points to continue their good start to the year.

The Blues enjoyed playing at home under the roof as they played host to the win-less Millicent and sent the visitors home still chasing their first victory.

The 70-62 win was set up by the rink of Brian Francis, Daryl Rannenberg, Brian Vorwerk and Jeff England continuing their good form to win 29-12.

The victory and 10 points sees them in second place and set up for a serious chance of finals at the end of the year.

Division 2 played host to Mount Gambier RSL and with three rink wins sent their cross town rivals home with a 82-53 loss.

The highlight was the continued impressive form of the rink led by Mark McDonald to overcome strong opposition to win 26-13.

Their third successive victory secures a top four spot and encouragement for a strong year ahead.

Division 4 action under the roof saw the undefeated Reds take on the visiting Millicent Reds.

The Millicent team took control on two rinks and secured a 72-66 win and returned home with 10 points.
