Putting around the lakes

GETTING READY TO PUTT: Blue Lake Golf Club Secretary Stephen Smith and club President Peter Sealey.

A NEW mini golf course at the Blue Lake Golf Club is expected to attract a new generation of golfers to the game according to the club’s president.

With construction expected to start next year, President Peter Sealey believes the new course will provide a pathway for juniors and others of all ages to become active in the sport, along with a host of other benefits.

“It will attract visitors and tourists to stay and play and view our iconic Crater Lakes Area situated at Mount Gambier,” he said.

The mini golf course is the latest in a series of projects being undertaken by the club, with construction of a driving range soon to be completed, along with a new car park off Grand Avenue.

Once completed, Mr Sealey said the Golf Club would offer people a range of activities, suitable to all ages, abilities and budget.

“If you pulled up at the Blue Lake Public Golf Links, you’re going to have a choice,” he said.

“You can go and hit a few balls off the driving range.

“You can play 18 holes of golf or you will now be able to go and have a game of mini golf.

“Or you could just sit, have a cup of coffee or a drink.”

The mini golf course is expected to cost around $400,000 with the club recently being awarded a Federal Government grant of $172,000.

The club envisions contributions from members and other forms of fundraising to make up the difference.

Mr Sealey thanked the Member for Barker, Tony Pasin, and the Federal Government for the grant.

Construction is expected to take around two years to complete.
