Top scores for women

IMPRESSIVE RESULTS: Third place Julie Hanel, winner Vicki Clarke and second place Sue Coulter.

THE Mount Gambier Golf Club turned on the conditions for a women’s stableford event last week, with 38 players taking to the course in perfect weather.

Due to the set-up of the course and the fine weather, 12 women played to their handicap or better.

With an unbeatable score of 43 points off her 28 handicap, Vicki Clark once again took the honours.

Clark registered 25 points on the front nine scoring 43 off the stick, seven shots under her handicap and 18 points on the difficult back nine.

Playing off 27, Sue Coulter was unlucky to come in second place as she carded 42 points, enough to win most days.

Having 22 points and playing four under her handicap on the front nine and 18 points on the back, she registered seven three-pointers throughout.

New to the game, Julie Hanel plays off 39 and was in good form with 40 points, four under her handicap.

Hanel scored 22 points, actually having six three-pointers on the front nine and 18 points on the long back.

Nine women received a ball in the ball run-down – Lois Harvey, Denise Harvey, Susan Downes, Marie Douglas, Maxine McGregor, Kerry Pedlar, Lyn Hudson, Libby Altschwager and Carol Davis.

Earning three balls for her fine effort on the eighth hole for the pro shot was Andrea Pegler.

The second shot on the first hole went to A Grade’s Denise Harvey, B Grade’s Diann Norman and C Grade’s Clark.

Meanwhile, 18 women took part in a stableford competition on Saturday in fine conditions with the course immaculate.

Kathy Ewer had an excellent round, scoring consistently on both front and back nines with 21 points on each.

Her 42 points comprised six three-pointers and a birdie on the par 3 eighth hole.

Gemma Winterborn had a much-improved back nine scoring 21 points and 16 points on the front for 37 points, with two four-pointers on the 11th and 14th holes.

Faye Mainwaring counted out her sister Helen Gregory to gain third place, both with excellent scores of 37 points.

Mainwaring had a solid score of 20 points on the long back nine to win the count-back, which included six pars.
