Course provides par challenge

BLUE LAKE BAR AND BISTRO WINNERS: Division 1 runner-up Lee-Anne Medhurst, winner Annette Ford, Division 2 winner Trudy Herbert, and runner-up Bev Pascoe.

A SINGLE stroke competition, sponsored by the Blue Lake Bar and Bistro, was held for the women at the Blue Lake Golf Club last week.

Conditions were cool but remained rain free.

Flags were set up strategically on most of the greens, which provided a challenge to player, with only two women able to play to their handicap.

In Division 1 Annette Ford and Lee-Anne Medhurst performed well, Ford signed for 96/25/71 with an outward score of 42 which included one par on the par 4 fifth hole.

The inward nine of 54 strokes saw Ford convert a chip-in “ferret” resulting in a par on the 13th hole, along with a par on the long par 5 17th.

Medhurst played regulation golf on the outward nine, having 48 strokes and 53 on the inward nine off her 29 handicap.

The nett 72 was good enough to secure the runner-up voucher, three strokes ahead of captain Helen Myers, who signed for 99/24/75.

Two regular winner’s in Division 2, Trudy Herbert and Bev Pascoe, had to wait on a count-back before the former was declared the winner, after both signed for nett 76.

Herbert had splits of 55/53 off a 32 handicap and Pascoe 54/55 off 33.

Lucy Richards followed with 114/35/79.

Nearest to the pin, second shot winners on the par 3, 14th hole were Division 1’s Lynda Nannings and Herbert in Division 2.

Ford won the pro-shot on the downhill par 3, fifth hole.

The best front 9 novelty event earned a ball for Myers and Pascoe, with “ferret” prizes going to Ford on the 13th hole and Josie Ashby on the 12th.
