ON THE PACE: Levi Day pushes his 1000cc Suzuki through a corner in a battle with a fellow competitor during Round 4 of the British Superstock Championships at Thruxton on the weekend.

A PAIR of top-10 finishes was a solid result for Mount Gambier motorcycle racer Levi Day in Round 3 of the British Superstock Championships at Thruxton on the weekend.

As usual there were plenty of challenges thrown up, from the weather to the lack of data for each circuit, with the team having to create its own information as they go.

Despite that, Day qualified in ninth place for the first of two races, battling hard to eventually cross the line in 10th place, after being up as high as seventh early.

Sunday’s race saw another 10th place finish, which Day said was a stronger performance considering he was closer to the front time-wise, just 10 seconds from the winner, a five-second improvement from the opening race.

“I had a good battle with Taylor McKenzie on the BMW and had a much stronger pace for the entire race,” he posted on social media.

“Of course we always want more and I’m working hard to get on the podium.”

Speaking to The Border Watch this week, Day said he was pleased with the season so far.

“It’s all going well to be honest,” he said.

“England is renowned for being the toughest domestic championship in the world.

The riders in front of me at the weekend are all ex British champions, either in the 1000cc or 600cc class.

“Many have also had experience in the main Superbike class, where the likes of Scott Redding won two years ago and is now a factory Ducati World Superbike Rider.”

A lack of track data for the 1000cc Suzuki sees Day on the back foot each meeting.

The team works hard to build a data base and provide Day with the best chance to improve his times as little separates the fast riders at the front of the pack.

But as he has shown in previous years in other classes such as the Ducati TriOptions Cup, he is soon on the pace and pushing for solid results.

“I am on a bike I’ve never raced until this year,” Day said.

“Each track we go to we are learning from scratch each time and battling toward the sharp end of the group.”

Day currently sits in 12th place in the championship after four rounds, just a solitary point out of 10th.
