PORT MACDONNELL 11.11 (77) d MOUNT BURR 3.6 (24)

WHILE it was an ordinary day for football on Saturday, there was no shortage of desire around the Mid South Eastern Football League grounds.

Down at Port MacDonnell the Demons hosted Mount Burr and the mud certainly played its part.

Once on the ground the ball was going nowhere fast and it required some determined players to extract it at times.

It certainly rendered the home-ground advantage basically null and void, but the Demons were still able to find plenty of goals.

The Mozzies banged on an early goal but struggled for much else, with no more majors up to the long break, with another two as the game wound down.

Malcolm Lewis found three goals for the victors, with Kevin Thomson and Dylan Bromley also with multiples with two each.

KALANGADOO 19.9 (123) d TANTANOOLA 9.10 (64)

Despite the rain, both Kalangadoo and Tantanoola found the big sticks quite regularly, with the hosts coming out on top with a good performance in front of goals.

The score card read like a dry day, with Michael Krieger banging on an impressive five goals for the Magpies in the win.

Kalangadoo had to fight back from a first-quarter deficit of nine points, but were up to the challenge and controlled the game from there.

The Tigers added five goals in the third term, but could not close the margin and the Magpies simply ran the game out with the wind.

Ben Gregory joined Krieger on the goal-kicking list with three majors, while Ben Mules, Tye McManus and Sam McManus all kicked two each.

For the Tigers, Jak Ryan kicked three and Jayden Reilly two.

GLENCOE 17.16 (118) d NANGWARRY 11.5 (71)

Nangwarry travelled to Glencoe and showed plenty of desire, going down but not without a fight.

Both sides put on a good display despite the conditions, but the Murphies were out to a better start and held on to increase its lead as the game played out.

An eight-goal second term sealed the Saints’ fate as the Murphies built a 59-point lead.

Nangwarry closed the margin in the second half, but in the end it was always going to be a tough task to bridge the gap.

Alex Hentschke kicked five goals for the victors, Niall Easterbrook and Robbie Smith three, while Dylan Childs added two.

For the Saints, Luke Thomson was in form in front of goals with six majors, while Jake McKeon kicked two.

HATHERLEIGH 13.5 (83) d KONGORONG 4.6 (30)

Hatherleigh headed to Kongorong and controlled the contest from the outset.

The Eagles kicked three first-quarter goals to just one, then held the Hawks to that solitary major until the final term.

At the final change Hatherleigh held a strong 61-point lead and while three final-quarter goals to the hosts flattered them on the scoreboard somewhat, it was still a big 53-point win to the Eagles.

Jed Telfer topped the score sheets with five goals for the victors, while Joe Ferguson-Lane and Jake Dowdy kicked two each.

Carl Slape kicked three for Kongorong.
