BORN A Runner, an impressive 512-metre winner at Tara Raceway in June, went the extra distance last Sunday when leading all the way in the 600-metre Eric Lewis Memorial for Lewiston trainer Clint Trengove and co-owner Michael Wallworth of Gisborne.
It was a terrific race with the Born A Runner defeating Sonic Sammy – having her first run over the distance – by a length with Mick’s Kimmy close up in third spot in a time of 35.38 seconds.
The winning connections had previously raced Hold On together, the black dog winning over 600 metres at Tara Raceway back in April at around the same time they had purchased Born A Runner for $2000.
Born A Runner has now won three races for Trengove and Wallworth, the daughter of Collision and Duna Runa previously successful at Gawler over 643 metres prior to last month’s local win in a quick 29.65 seconds.
For Trengove, a great supporter of Mount Gambier greyhound racing, it was a case of him once again catching up with Dale Lewis of the Coonawarra, on track with wife Judy for the eighth running of his father’s memorial.
Trengove trained the quinella in last year’s Lewis Memorial – run over 732 metres – after My Boy Bean defeated Victa Jess by 1½ lengths in 43.92 seconds.
