IT was a case of unfortunate timing for young Millicent netballer Lucy Denton.
Denton recently received a grant from Wattle Range Council’s Youth Development Program to help with the costs of attending the National Netball Championships in Hobart, from July 6-11.
Denton was selected for the South Australian Under 17 state side.
The 17-year-old was set to fly out on Saturday, but the competition has now been cancelled by Netball Australia due to the unfolding coronavirus pandemic.
Denton’s mother Donna said Lucy was disappointed, but with so much happening around the country at the moment, she understood the issues.
Lucy has been a senior netballer for some time with championship team Millicent in the Western Border Netball Association, showing plenty of skills and smarts for her young years.
Donna said there was some talk about rescheduling the tournament, but at this stage there is no confirmation.
