KONGORONG 6.11 (47) d TANTANOOLA 5.8 (38)

A LOW-SCORING affair at Kongorong saw the home side claim a hard-fought victory in Round 11 of Mid South East football.

It was a sea-sawing contest, with neither side able to make a decisive break.

Kongorong took the advantage in the first term, but a few wayward kicks saw the the Tigers still in the contest, despite kicking just one minor score.

The visitors then created some momentum in the second term, turning the game around to lead by four points at the long break.

With only five major scores kicked for the game at that stage, it was all about accuracy in front of the big sticks and the Hawks threatened to kick themselves out of the game in the third quarter.

They did add two more major scores to Tantanoola’s one, but also kicked four behinds as well to lead by just five points at the final break.

In a tight final term the home side did enough to claim the win, with Carl Slape kicking four of the Hawks six goals.

KALANGADOO 17.11 (113) D PORT MACDONELL 13.8 (86)

The clash of the heavyweights of the competition provided three enthralling quarters, but a strong final stanza handed Kalangadoo what appeared on paper to be a comfortable victory.

However, scores were tied up at the first break, while the Demons led by eight points at half time.

The Magpies turned their fortunes around with a six-goal third term, but led by just five points at the final break.

From there it was one-way traffic as Kalangadoo stormed home with five goals to the Demons’ two for a strong win.

Josh La Rocca and Justin Bromley kicked three goals each for the victors, while Brett Lindner, Lachy Jones and Michael Krieger kicked two each.

Kevin Thomson led the way for the Demons with three majors, while Matthew Stark, Jake Turner and Brandon Newton kicked two each.

MOUNT BURR 15.15 (105) d GLENCOE 8.12 (60)

Mount Burr kept its finals aspirations alive after a strong victory over Glencoe.

Apart from an even first term, Glencoe simply struggled to keep in touch with the Mozzies as they stretched their one-point opening quarter lead to 27 points at the main break.

That set up a handy lead, which was required with another relatively even third term.

It was the final term where the Mozzies showed their superior fitness as they ran the game out and banged on four major scores to the Murphies’ one and run out convincing victors.

Up forward the pairing of Hamish Smith and Taylor allen found the big sticks regularly, with three major scores each, while Thomas Hales added two.

Only Tom Edwards kicked multiple goals for Glencoe with two.

ROBE 30.12 (192) d NANGWARRY 8.7 (55)

Up the coast Robe made short work of Nangwarry, although the Saints again found a way to score.

That came through a five-goal haul from Ben Just, while Ben Deamer also kicked multiples with two.

However, at the other end of the ground there was no shortage of delivery, with plenty of opportunities to hit the scoreboard.

Zac Deane made the most of it with six goals, while Jack Kelly and Billy Laurie bagged five each.

Jack Sneath and Ethan Cornish kicked three each, while Flynn Peel added two.
