JACK Trengove, formerly of Broken Hill and now based at Two Wells where he is looking to set up as a full-time greyhound trainer, did not have to wait too long for his first SA winner.
Following his recent relocation, Trengove, accompanied by his Two Wells-based cousin Harry Trengove, made his first trip to Mount Gambier’s Tara Raceway last Thursday with eight runners.
The 23-year-old, who has been training greyhounds for seven years, did pretty well when landing a treble with Curiouser, It’s A Louie and Jackie’s Exhibit – all coming off recent wins at Broken Hill.
Curiouser, a daughter of Fernando Bale and middle-distance winner Kapalos, looked particularly good in the 512-metre Bartholomew Pick 6 Stake when leading all the way to defeat Connie’s Entity by 7¼ lengths in a quick 29.77 seconds.
Purchased by Trengove from Adelaide in February, he is the fourth trainer for Curioser.
He has now won three races with her, while her overall tally of wins is 14 – accumulated in three states.
It’s A Louie, a son of Worm Burner and Batty Allen and bred in Broken Hill by the trainer’s father, Clayton, had raced early in the year at Tara Raceway when trained by his uncle, Clint Trengove.
That was on a day when only six races were run due to kennel house cooling problems, the blue dog leading all the way for a quick Juvenile win over 400 metres in 22.99 seconds.
Last Thursday’s win saw It’s A Louie once again lead all the way when defeating cousin Harry’s Bottled Fury by 4½ lengths in 23.22 seconds in the Bourne Kennels Stake.
Jack Trengove’s treble came in the form of a quinella in the 400-metre South Eastern Hotel Stake when Jackie’s Exhibit led all the way to defeat Invictus Lenny by three lengths in 23.47 seconds.
By Champion Exhibit, who sired only two litters, Jackie’s Exhibit is out of Monster Foxy, a nine-race winner and member of the successful Cape Hawke x Rustic Reeta litter.
In fact, Sweet Savage, a winner of five races over the 400-metre journey at Gawler and the dam of Hostile Raven, also a winner last Thursday, is a litter sister to Monster Foxy.
Wrapping up a good day for the Trengove clan was Harry Trengove’s Material Girl who took over the running off the back when defeating Compton Tess by 3¾ lengths in 23.42 seconds in the Produce Store Stake (400m).
Come Sunday and it was the turn of Clint Trengove (the father of Harry and uncle of Jack) to get among the winners at Tara Raceway.
First it was with For Five Seconds, a maiden winner at her first start in early June at Tara Raceway, who led all the way in the Bourne Kennels Maiden/One Win Stake (400m) to defeat Compton Casey by 1¼ lengths in a quick 23.09 seconds.
Then it was Born A Runner who staged a terrific performance in the Rock’s Tavern Stake (512m) when leading all the way to defeat Smokey River by 3¾ lengths in a best of day 29.65 seconds.
Raced in partnership with Michael Wallworth of Gisborne, Born A Runner is now on her seventh trainer after joining Trengove’s Lewiston kennels in April.
All told, she has now won five races, two of those in SA at Gawler and Mount Gambier.
The red brindle bitch is a daughter of Collision and Duna Runa, a winner of 11 races and $37,000 in stakemoney.
Duna Runa is also a litter sister to Cee Me Burst, winner of the 2015 Winter Classic (512m) at Tara Raceway for Tracie Price.
Another recent family success story at Tara Raceway has been that of Two Wells sisters Kiah and Jayde Hurley – Kiah successful on June 13 with Sarcasmic over 400 metres in a quick 22.84 seconds.
Jayde then followed up four days later with Ikaruga Bale, a 5¼ lengths winner over Picogram in 23.11 seconds.
Back in Mount Gambier on Sunday, Kiah was successful in the Gordon Refrigeration Stake (512m) with Sell More Houses who brought up his fifth win for connections after being purchased for $2500 from NSW in February.
Two races later she brought up a double when Lily’s Lad strung together his fourth consecutive win after leading all the way in the Greg Martlew Autos Stake (400m) in a quick 22.92 seconds.
Purchased as a pup by the Hurley family, the son of Barcia Bale x Gloria’s Bills was resuming after a minor injury.
Connections expect further improvement from Lily’s Lad.
