THE Robe Bowling Club held a successful Barefoot Bowls evening for the Lucidale Fire Appeal last week, with numbers down on expected players but many spectators which made for an enjoyable evening.

Winners of the Caledonian Inn voucher lucky scorecard were visitors Geoff Williams, Gary Gove, Chris Lewis and Ken Lewis.

Runner-up with RBC bar vouchers were Stephen Phillips, Heidi Gribble, Trevor Wagner and Chris Davidson.

Many novelty prizes were given out, donated by Trish and Cory from the Robe Post Office.

Raffle winners were Vic Dawson, Dennis Boundy, Judy Bermingham, Irene Ham and Jesse St John. An auction was held, with president Harold Manton as auctioneer and over $3000 was raised for the Lucindale fire appeal on the night

Meanwhile social bowls was held on a hot afternoon, with 18 players braving the conditions.

Ten ends of three-bowl pairs were played with two two-game winners.

Ron Packer and Vic Dawson were runners-up on 54 points, while visitors Jeff Mitchell and Michael Rivett won the day with 55 points.

Last week saw the start of the Lower South East Bowls Association Super Series played at Mount Gambier RSL.

Robe Roosters went down to Bradbury’s 25 shots to 33.

The ladies pennant was cancelled last Friday due to the heat rule so both Divisions 2 and 3 finished fourth and will both play Penola in the semi-final.

Both Division 1 against Kalangadoo and Division 4 against Beachport Blue played their final home-and-away game at Robe Saturday and both had good wins.

Division 1 defeated Kalangdoo 14 points 76 shots to 2-66.

Jim Gray, Gordon Brown, Harold Manton and Stephen Kennett had a close game against Peter Lowe’s team winning 28-26, while Pat Lynch, Peter DeLaine, Ken Smith and Peter Roachock had a good win against Kim Stewart’s team 28-18.

Errol Jennings, Jo Sykes, Peter Gregory and Dean Burgoyne had a narrow loss to Marcus Pietersma’s team 22-20.

Division 1 finished fifth so will not take part in the finals, missing out by five points.

In Division 4 Robe defeated Beachport Blue 16-82 to 0-62.

Josh Waddell, Barry Bennett, Rob Lawrie and David Robinson won 28-24, while Doug Baker, Vic Dawson, Paul Truelove and Mark Murphy won 28-21.

Brian Nankivell, Ross Dening, Stephen Phillips and Deane Nankivell defeated Anne-Marie Goode’s team 26-17.

The side finished top and will play Mount Gambier RSL in the second semi-final.
