THE Mount Gambier Pioneers men have announced an exciting new recruit for the 2020 NBL1 season.

Sydney Kings rookie Jordan Hunter has signed with the club for the upcoming season and adds height and athleticism to the roster.

The 6’10” 23-year-old is set to join the Pioneers upon the completion of the NBL season and will provide the team with an imposing interior presence on both offence and defence.

Hunter joined the Kings after a stellar junior career in which he represented Australia at the Under 19 World Championships, followed by a successful four-year college career with Saint Marys in California.

He looks forward to continuing his growth with the Pioneers.

“I’m excited to join an excellent program in Mount Gambier and look forward to working with a very talented core group and coaching staff,” he said.

“I am keen to continue my development and help bring more championship success to the Pioneers.”

In his senior year with the Saint Marys’ Gaels Hunter averaged eight points at an impressive 58pc, along with 6.8 rebounds per game.

His highlight with the club was being named as the West Coast Conference tournament MVP when his team won the conference title in 2019.

Mount Gambier Pioneers men’s coach Richard Hill is excited for Hunter to join the club.

“I believe Jordan will be a huge asset to our program,” he said.

“We have not had a player with his combination of size and athleticism in my time at Mount Gambier.”

That is a big call considering the talent which has hit the Icehouse floor over Hill’s coaching career at the club, which spans over eight years and more than 200 games.

The Pioneers roster continues to take shape and is expected to be finalised early this month as the club looks to secure a front court partner for Hunter to complement the side’s talented perimeter players.
