NAIL-BITER: Pumas Under 14 boys secured a tight one-point win over Devils in their season decider last Friday.

UNDER 16 BOYS – ROOS 42 d EAGLES 32

THE Under 16 boys grand final was played between Roos and Eagles.

Roos took charge early in the slow-starting game and enjoyed a 10-4 lead after the first break.

Despite Jaxon Cushion’s best efforts, scoring 16 points in just three quarters, Eagles could not stop both Kynan Dunn and Eli Redman on the court as they scored 30 points between them.

At the final buzzer Roos came away with a 10-point win.

UNDER 16 GIRLS – EAGLES 38 d SAINTS 31

THE Under 16 girls match between Eagles and Saints saw several entertaining match-ups on the court, in particular the battle between Eagles’ Paige Lucas’ and Saints’ Lacey Haines.

They both kept each other uncharacteristically quiet on the scoreboard with their defensive pressure all around the court.

In the end, Saints were no match for Eagles as they attacked the ring and made use of every possession, securing a seven-point win, 38-31.

UNDER 14 GIRLS – PUMAS 34 d ROOS 30

THE highly-anticipated match of the night was played between Roos and Pumas in the Under 14 girls grand final.

With just four points the difference at the end of the match, it lived up to expectations.

Pumas started well to outscore Roos by 10 points in the first quarter.

They were able to maintain that lead throughout the game, but Roos did not make it easy, as they came out firing in the remaining three terms.

Roos’ Kasey Peak stepped up and scored seven points in the third quarter to reel in the margin to head into the final stanza with it a two-point ball game.

In the last quarter Roos did everything they could to push over the line, but with only two points added Pumas were able to claim a four-point win at the buzzer.

UNDER 12 BOYS – SAINTS 47 d PUMAS 22

SAINTS recorded the biggest win of the night when they defeated Pumas in the Under 12 boys grand final.

Both teams started off well with Pumas leading 12-8 at quarter time.

Saints’ Will Wimshurst used his height and speed to his team’s advantage and he had an influence on the scoreboard in the second term to reverse the scoreline and push Saints out to a four-point lead.

In the third quarter Wimshurst, Teej Lawlor and Curtis Shanks went on a scoring frenzy and scored a total of 16 points between them, which put Saints in a strong position heading into the final term.

Saints cemented its lead with a solid finish and came away with a 47-22 point win.

UNDER 12 GIRLS – SAINTS 41 d DEVILS 29

THE Under 12 girls grand final between Saints and Devils was expected to be a tough match, with the semi-final only a two-point game.

However, Saints proved the stronger team with a big finish handing it a 12-point grand final win.

Devils were off to a fast start with Alex Haines scoring four of her team’s seven points for the first quarter.

Early in the second term Saints’ Eva Crowe retaliated and scored a quick eight points to shorten the lead to 14-17 at half time.

In the third quarter, both teams minimised turnovers and utilised offences, as they traded blows throughout the term.

Heading into the final quarter Devils led by a point, but when Mylee Lynch was fouled out of the game Saints stepped up in offence and gained the lead to run away with the victory.
