IT was a tough weekend for Limestone Coast sprintcar drivers competing at Warrnambool Saturday night in Max’s Race.

A big field headed to Premier Speedway for the fifth annual event, with Grant Anderson claiming the A Main feature race honours.

Mount Gambier’s Steven Lines showed he was on the pace, just missing a podium position to finish in fourth place.

Glenn Sutherland moved up a few spots from his starting position of 20th to finish 17th, while Jake Tranter came home in 21st.

The night included four time trials, eight heats, three pole shootouts, a B Main odds, B Main evens and the A Main feature race.

In heat two Steven Lines started out of third place, while Scott Enderl was in fifth.

Lines moved up to second place at the chequered flag, while Enderl crossed the line in fourth.

Tranter started out of seventh in heat three and moved up to fourth place, while Sutherland headed out in heat four and dropped from seventh to ninth.

The second round of heats saw Enderl and Lines out of eighth and 10th respectively in heat six.

Lines worked his way through traffic to greet the chequered flag in fifth place, while Enderl dropped down the order to ninth.

Sutherland had a better run in heat seven, up to fourth place from sixth on the grid.

In the final heat Tranter set the pace, with a solid drive to claim the win from sixth place on the grid.

From there the shootouts began, with Lines second in the Bronze and silver runs.

He then claimed pole position after the gold shootout.

Enderl had to content with the B Main odds race, but failed to make the big dance, with a ninth place finish.

Sutherland made his way to the A Main feature with a solid drive through the B Main evens.

Starting out of sixth place, he moved up to second at the chequered flag, which equated to 20th on the grid for the main feature race.

While Lines was on pole, Tranter had qualified in 11th, with a tough task ahead for the three Limestone Coast drivers in the 24-strong field.

The top 10 finishers showed how tough the race was, with John Vogels behind Anderson, followed by Darren Mollenoyux, Lines, James McFadden, Rusty Hickman, Corey McCullagh, Aidan Hall, Jock Goodyer and Brayden Parr.
