THE Mount Gambier and District Cricket Association Barber Shield competition will return to the one-day format tomorrow, with an extra splash of colour at Malseed Park.

West Gambier will hold its annual Pink Stumps day in support of the McGrath Foundation for its round five meeting with Mil Lel.

Pink playing tops, pads, zink and hats will compliment the iconic coloured stumps on the day, which also promises to provide a competitive game of cricket.

Bianca Easterbrook is the instigator behind the club’s involvement in the cause and it is something she has become passionate about over the years.

“We are raising money for the McGrath Foundation to help with breast care nurses,” she said.

“I think this will be our fifth year.”

Going a step above this year, specially designed playing tops have been ordered for the game.

The tops retain the Roos’ primary design, but the red has been replaced with pink, along with the addition of the McGrath Foundation logo.

“Bianca organised the new shirts with our regular sponsors on, as well as with the McGrath Foundation’s approval to have their logo on the front,” West Gambier Cricket Club president Shane Dycer said.

“The guys purchased their tops, with a portion of that money going back to the foundation as well.”

Dycer is hoping for plenty of spectator support tomorrow, both from West and Mil Lel.

“It is a good way to get everyone together for a good cause,” he said.

“We have Mil Lel this year – we have great competition between our clubs and have a good crossover of people in our clubs.

“I think they will get right behind it.”

The pink festivities will continue after the match, with hopes for players and spectators to stay to mingle and enjoy some food and drink.

“We will finish the match off with a barbecue and bar going, with all the funds going to the McGrath Foundation,” Easterbrook said.

The fund-raising will not end there with Easterbrook set to compete in a triathlon in January to raise more money for the McGrath Foundation, while West will also hold a pink family day in February.

“We have had families impacted through our club with breast cancer, so it is nice to get behind it and do something for the ladies at the club,” Easterbrook said.
