THE Blue Lake BMX Club sent 11 riders to the 2019 Victorian State Championships last weekend, with seven returning from the host Casey BMX Club with state plates.

Of those, Cedar Scott, Jasmine Morgan and Lilly Jones all finished second in their respective age groups to bring home number two plates.

Recovering from illness, Jones set out to defend her number one plate from last year.

After a poor start in the final she fought her way to second, where she crossed the line as runner-up for the 9 girls.

Also up an age from last year’s event, Morgan equalled her 2018 result when she finished second in the 11 girls.

Scott was the big improver, as she moved up to the 12 girls to claim her highest ever finish at a state title, following a sixth place in the 11 girls last year.

Another Blue Lake podium saw Alistair Scott equal his 2018 result to defend the number three plate in the 40-plus men retro class.

He was unlucky to drop to third after winning the first three motos, but was unable to repeat the feat in the final.

Keeping it in the family, Raine Scott claimed the number four plate in the 14 girls ahead of fellow Blue Lake rider Jade Jennings, who finished fifth in the closely contested class.

Rounding out the plate winners was Mercedes Scott, who overcome the odds to finish sixth.

She had a fall in moto 3 and suffered a hand injury, but managed to finish the race, as well as the fourth and final moto.

Upon xrays it was discovered she completed the final race with two broken bones in her hand.

Before the crash she appeared set for a fourth-place overall result.

Also competing on the weekend was Vespa Scott, who raced in the 9 girls, but missed out on the final for an overall ninth place.

Riley Morgan made the semi-finals in the competitive 13 boys class, but finished eighth to miss out on the main event and claim 13th overall.

Brad Jennings and Jaques Aslin also rode well, but both missed out on finals action – the latter by just one position.

Overall it was a successful outing for the Blue Lake BMX Club and riders will now turn their attention to tonight’s club round, while the Christmas presentation night is also fast approaching.
