CENTRAL v FEDERAL

CENTRAL and Federal fought out a classic Division 1 baseball contest on Saturday, with the former claiming the premiership points by just two runs.

Batting first, Federal opened its account with a solitary run when Alex Reppin singled to centre-field and touched home on Sam Shepherd’s two-bagger to leftfield.

Central was off to a flyer when Ethan Chuck singled, followed by Kyall McClean’s safe-hit.

Chuck scored on Nathan Meinck’s sacrifice fly to left-field, Dylan Chuck also singled, as did Brock Keding, whose hit batted in McClean.

Koby Chant’s Texas-leaguer scored Chuck, followed by Brad Lynagh’s single to left-field which saw Keding cross home.

In the bottom of the fifth, Dylan Chuck hit safely to right-field and scored on Koby Chan’s hit into an error at third-base.

Federal staged a mini-comeback in the top of the ninth, but it was not enough.

Sam Shepherd’s safe-hit saw him at first and Nathan Taylor’s bunt advanced the runner and he reached first-base safely.

Shepherd scored on Tom Rundle’s single and Clay Carpenter, who found himself on base, crossed on Darcy Pink’s safe-hit to centre-field, which left the Demon’s two runs short of the game
continuing.

Central had nine safe-hits, two walks, four RBI, five strikeouts and left six runners on base.

Federal had nine safe-hits, one walk, three RBI, eight strikeouts, left seven runners on base and made four errors.

SOUTH INDIANS v TIGERS

SOUTH Indians claimed a dominant victory over Tigers in Friday night’s Division 1 baseball fixture.

The Indians opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with three runs and never let up from there.

Lead-off batter, Ryan Placucci, arrived at first after hitting into an error at third-base and Ben Nash hit safely to right-field.

Placucci scored on Dean Hamilton’s hit, also to right-field, followed by Nash, who crossed on Travis Lockwood’s hit which created a wild throw from the catcher and subsequently saw Hamilton home.

In contrast, Tigers scored their only run in the top of the fifth.

Jesse Foster walked and scored on Tyler Horrigan’s safe-hit.

In the bottom of that inning, Nash found himself at first after a fielder’s choice, Bruce Morale singled and Hamilton drew a walk.

Nash crossed on an error at third base and Morale and Hamilton added to the score on Damien O’Dine’s safe-hit to left-field.

The Indians mercied Tigers in the seventh inning when they added five runs.

All but one of their runs was unearned.
