READY TO FLY: The Millicent Stadium Cross event will return to the Millicent Show tonight and is set to thrill spectators with plenty of high-flying action.

THE Millicent Stadium Cross event will once again thrill spectators and bring the show to life with its fast-paced action tonight and through to Saturday.

Riders will come from far and wide to tackle the stadium circuit and create a high-flying spectacle under the night sky.

There will be a variety bikes and competitors with 11 classes on offer including MX1, Experts, Veterans, Juniors, Women’s, plus 50, 65 and 85cc categories.

Event organiser and Mount Gambier Junior Motorcycle Club president Damien Holman said the rider numbers are already past last year’s figure after a promising build up.

“We have about 80 riders at the moment, which is a couple more than last year and is not a bad field,” he said.

“A lot of riders venture down from Adelaide, Geelong, Warrnambool, Portland, Hamilton and Horsham.

“There are a couple of classes that are a bit light on, but it is still a good number.”

The leading MX1 and Experts riders will be selected to ride in the star attraction – the Dale Teagle memorial race.

The main event will see the top 24 riders fight it out across 15 action-packed laps.

A total of $500 will be the prize for the winner, while the rider who gets the fastest start off the line will receive a bonus prize in tribute to Laurie Fox.

Holman said the Dale Teagle Memorial race will be an entertaining affair on the challenging layout.

“The track is a short and technical track,” he said.

“It has a combination of stutters and whoops and different types of turns and jumps, from small doubles to large high-flying tabletops.

“After 15 laps, the riders will be coming in and their arms will be sore, which is great to watch.”

The stadium cross event continues to grow each year and now fans can find new ways to enjoy the action.

A 100-inch big screen TV will ensure spectators at the event will not miss a moment, while a Facebook live stream can allow people to witness the action from their own living room.

Holman said improvements such as these continues the event’s strong partnership with the Millicent Show and increases the spectacle.

“We complement the Millicent Show by being a major attraction,” he said.

“It allows our members to show off their ability of what they can do on a closed circuit.

“Together we work in partnership to make this two-day event as spectacular as can be.”

Action will take place from 2-11pm today.
