ACTION returns to McNamara Park next weekend, with the 41st running of the Master of Mac Park.

The time-honoured event has become one of the longest running road races in Australia, which continues to grow in stature.

A huge field has been assembled for this year’s meeting, with plenty of competition across all classes.

No doubt a prize pool of over $5000 in cash and prizes has contributed to the popularity of the event.

William Strugnell will start as hot favourite for the coveted Master of Mac Park solo title and has plenty to prove.

Last year saw his BMW Superbike break down in Friday’s practice, which thwarted his efforts to claim a three-peat of victories and reclaim his lap record.

Strugnell was forced to borrow a bike to race and managed an impressive second place, behind Arthur Sissis, with young Furner racer Dallas Skeer in third.

Neither Sissis or Skeer will be attending this year due to Australian Superbike commitments.

But Strugnell will certainly make his intentions felt, this year aboard a 1000cc Suzuki superbike, the same machine he claimed the 2019 McNamara Park Easter Cup on.

Former winners of the Master of Mac Park in Andrew Tenison Woods and Graham Snaith will be out to spoil Strugnell’s party, while Mount Gambier’s Darren Trotter is always a chance with his intimate track knowledge.

There is also a good mix of Mount Gambier club riders ready to take the challenge up their more-fancied rivals, to provide plenty of interest “locally.”

Other riders will venture across from Melbourne’s Hartwell club, a group which uses the McNamara Park circuit regularly.

Competitors will also head down from Adelaide from the Phoenix Motorcycle Club, along with various others.

Apart from the major drawcard, another big focus will be the sidecars.

Hailing from across the border in Nelson, the father and son duo of David and Stephen Jones will chase their fifth Master of Mac Park sidecar title.

Clearly the two have a love for the track and always provide plenty of fast, committed entertainment.

The field is yet to be finalised, but also includes the likes of the Mount Gambier duo Adrian van Uitert and Mark Holloway.

Other classes include Superbike, Junior, Supersport, plus Premodern and Naked.

Practice will run on Friday, with qualifying and racing Saturday and Sunday.
