AMONG the stars of Glenelg’s historic SANFL grand final win on Sunday was Mount Burr premiership player Brad Agnew.

Playing in defence, Agnew was named as second-best player as his Tigers overwhelmed the Port Adelaide Magpies by 28 points at the Adelaide Oval.

It was their fifth flag and their first since 1986.

A crowd of almost 40,000 saw the local red-head collect valuable possessions in every quarter.

It was one of the highlights of his 123-game career in the state’s elite football competition.

The premiership by the Bay Boys capped off a remarkable return to the SANFL by Agnew.

The 27-year-old had a break from all football in 2018 to go on a lengthy overseas holiday.

His involvement in football continued from afar as he was a spectator in the 2018 Mid South East Football League season decider at Glencoe.

Elder brother Jonny Agnew skippered his Robe Roosters to a thrilling three-point win over the Mount Burr Mozzies.

Back in 2009 when Brad Agnew was only 17, he played along eldest brother Peter Agnew when Mount Burr defeated Kalangadoo in the grand final at Hatherleigh.

Within 18 months, he was making his senior SANFL debut with Glenelg.

Brad’s mother Deb and sister Hayley have strong connections with the Mount Burr Netball Club while his father Chris played football at Kalangadoo.

The outstanding talent of Agnew was nurtured at Mount Burr and Glenelg and at his schools.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart College first XVIII which won games against arch rivals Assumption College and Rostrevor College.

Meanwhile, another Mount Burr premiership player won a flag at Adelaide Oval on Sunday as Henry Crauford played with the Norwood Reserves.
