READY FOR ACTION: Little Athletics kicks off in Penola soon, with the club prepared for a big season.

REGISTRATIONS for the 2019/2020 Penola and Districts Little Athletics Club are now open and the excitement levels are rising, with the season set to kick off on Friday, October 18.

This year will see 15 meets, which will include two Sunday meets, a grandparents and special friends day, plus a sponsors night.

In the off season the club secured a $5000 grant thanks to the hard work of treasurer Kylie Gartner.

This money has enabled the club to purchase a new 5×3-metre high jump mat, in line with national standards.

Volunteers Nathan Stanley and Tony McCarthy ensured the high jump trailer was modified to fit the new mats.

A new electric starter gun was purchased to replace the cap gun, which is no longer regulation.

The club was nominated in the top four regional clubs in South Australia, which in itself was an impressive achievement.

The club also hosted a roadshow, similar to a mini conference for all of the little athletic clubs in the South East which were unable to attend the state conference in Adelaide.

During the season the club will offer specialised training days and coaching clinics.

Anyone interested in increasing their knowledge and coaching skills in a particular event can do so through a subsidised Level 1 accredited coaching clinic, to be held on Sunday, October 20.
