INFLUENTIAL: West Gambier’s Michael Minuzzo claims the K&S Fuels Player of the Week for round seven of Western Border football.

ROUND seven of Western Border football panned out as many expected.

It was basically a repeat of round two where the top three sides claimed convincing wins.

North Gambier was impressive against South Gambier and seems set for a serious premiership run.

Coach Justin McConnell has certainly made his presence felt since returning to the league and the helm of the Tigers this season.

His eight-goal bag was just another day at the office, but the performances of Hamish Telford, Dylan Munn, Brett Kennedy – and the list goes on – is a far cry from recent seasons.

As the season progresses it will certainly be interesting to see which teams can stay with them week in, week out.

Millicent continues to struggle, with the reigning premier mantle appearing too much for the depleted side.

To be fair, the Saints did lose many personnel in the off-season, which is evident each round.

But for East Gambier, all seems on track for another shot at the title, if the Bulldogs can make the big dance in September.

All the usual suspects are standing tall, including the likes of Jayden Eldridge, who impresses just about every week.

Add to the improvement from John Forster and the Bulldogs have plenty of desire around the hard ball.

There is a long list of others, including five players who kicked two goals each on the weekend to defeat the Saints.

However, the round seven K&S Fuels Player of the Week goes to Michael Minuzzo.

Minuzzo joined West Gambier this season and has slotted in well.

His ferocious attack on the Sherrin this week helped the Roos to a comfortable win over Casterton Sandford.

His play complements the likes of Lawry Bradley-Brown, coach Brad Wilson and even the experienced campaigner Tom Holmes, among others.

It all adds up to a potent roster which is certainly a flag favourite in 2019.
