A GRADE – PENOLA 88 d PADTHAWAY 42

PENOLA’S A Grade outfit ran out to score a comfortable away victory over Padthaway in round nine of the 2019 Kowree Naracoorte Tatiara Netball Association season on Saturday.

The home side utilised its height to produce ensure a tight first quarter, but precise passing by April Possingham meant the Eagles maintained a seven-point lead at the opening break.

Georgia Winter hit the court well and Penola began to build a lead.

During the second half the Eagles continued to control the game with some impressive defensive work.

The resistant Penola line up proved too strong for the Lions to win by 46 goals.

Sally Skeer enjoyed another top game to earn the best player honours.

A RESERVE – PENOLA 83 d PADTHAWAY 27

THE Penola A Reserve side registered its biggest win of the season with a dominant 56-goal victory over Padthaway.

The triumph was created by the impressive intercept work by Lauren Foster in wing defence to earn best-on-court honours.

Chelsea Bradley was another standout across the court in both the goal defence and centre roles.

The Eagles’ 83-27 away-from-home victory was their most complete performance of the season.

B GRADE – PENOLA 56 d PADTHAWAY 34

PENOLA saw off a fast-starting Padthaway line up to claim the victory spoils in B Grade.

From the first whistle the Lions took the Eagles by surprise with smart play and intercepts.

But the tables turned in the second quarter as Penola began to gel.

The Eagles converted well in the goal ring, while at the other end of the court, their defence combined to keep the opposition’s scoring at a minimum.

This sequence continued until the final whistle and ensured a 56-34 win for Penola.

A loud and consistent Amanda Wurst took home the best player award.

C GRADE – PENOLA 57 d PADTHAWAY 18

A STRONG team effort resulted in a huge win for the Penola C Grade outfit over Padthaway on the weekend.

The Eagles were on top from the opening with tight defensive pressure and direct ball movement.

Goalies Jess Lucas and Laura Price feasted to build a substantial lead.

A few changes at half time did not slow Penola’s momentum down as each player adjusted well.

The Eagles ran out 57-18 victors and Lucas was named as the top performer.

17 AND UNDER – PADTHAWAY 52 d PENOLA 25

A TOUGH day was experienced by the 17 and Under Penola outfit, which lost to a strong Padthaway squad by 27 goals.

A slow start proved costly for the Eagles as the home side built a solid early lead before half time.

Some big changes were made at the main break which saw Anna Marcus step up to the goal shooter role and prosper.

Despite an improved second half, Penola suffered defeat, while Marcus’ hard work and versatility saw her take home the best player award.

13 AND UNDER A – PENOLA 29 d PADTHAWAY 20

PENOLA held on to win a narrow fight with Padthaway in the Under 13 A fixture on Saturday.

The entire game was a close contest with the Eagles first scoring the lead in the second quarter.

Penola was forced to work hard to retain its advantage as the match turned into a scrappy battle.

Both sides struggled to find their form, but it was the Eagles who claimed the honours with a nine-goal win.

13 AND UNDER B

PENOLA’S 13B girls struggled to find their best form against Padthaway and played an inconsistent game.

Their continual improvement has struggled to be transferred on game day, which has hurt the young side.

Charlize and Macey received coaches awards for their hard work.

13 MOD

PENOLA’S youngest side enjoyed its first game for several weeks and gained momentum each quarter to finish the contest well.

Matilda, Jazz, Haylee and Winnie created great space in offence and offered some strong leads, while Lilly, Grace and Ella applied consistent pressure.

Haylee Moulton and Lilly Hackwill won the awards.
