TITLE DEFENCE: Mid South East Netball Association playing-coach Abbey Duncan from Kalangadoo will lead the charge to defend the association’s 2018 title at the country championships this weekend in Adelaide.

THE Mid South East Netball Association will be represented by four sides at this weekend’s Country Championships in Adelaide.

The competition, which began in 1936, is the largest of its kind held in the state, with over 90 teams from 26 regional associations to compete across four divisions.

A senior, Under 17, 15 and 13 side will represent the association at the championships with high expectations.

The senior squad will be determined to perform well and defend its 2018 victory.

The Mid South East line up will meet Great Southern, Barossa Light and Gawler, Port Lincoln and Whyalla during the group stages to kick off its back-to-back title chase.

A talented group of players will be coached by Port MacDonnell’s Toni-Lee Gilmore and Kalangadoo’s Abbey Duncan, who will also perform a key role on the court.

The squad is made up of four members of last year’s championship-winning team and will hope to repeat that success.

The goal scoring will be fronted by Ebony McDiarmid and Jami Walker, while Duncan will offer support in goal attack.

Sarah Faulkner, Tegan Merrett and Casey Walker are expected to play a role in the mid court, in an attempt to provide scoring opportunities for their goalies.

In defence Maddie Redman, Sophie Wallis and Georgia Duncan will stand tall.

A total of four team managers, executive members and umpires will accompany the squad throughout its campaign.

All matches played in the championships will consist of two 15-minute halves, with a three-minute interval at half time.

The junior competitions will continue with the same format, with separate rounds of matches today and Sunday before the finals on Monday.
