THE 2019 Western Border Football League season has provided some entertaining contests, plus some one-sided games.

Along the way there has been no shortage of entertainment.

That was again the case on Saturday as the league went full circle and round-one games were repeated.

Two of the top sides went head-to-head, top and bottom played off, while the two middle-of-the-road sides were up against each other in what should have been a close round, apart from one game.

As it turned out North Gambier was far too strong for Millicent.

The Saints have shown glimpses of good play this season, but have struggled and sit win-less at the bottom of the ladder.

Saturday they were simply not in the game against the top side of the competition.

While Tigers playing coach Justin McConnell watched on from the sidelines, his players went about their duties and dissected the Saints game.

One player who was impressive was Nick Moretti, who returned to the Tigers lineup for the first time in 2019 and kicked five goals.

East Gambier played host to West Gambier but were not in the contest after the opening term.

The Roos boasted plenty of run-and-carry, while holding out well in the backline for a dominant end result.

In defence Steve Wenman was at his best, along with Levi Morton and several other Roos, while up forward 2019 recruit Ben Papps was on target, kicking four goals.

The expected close game down at Island Park almost came to fruition.

Last time Casterton Sandford and South Gambier met, the Cats tired late in the game and the Demons lifted to claim the win.

That was almost the case again, but this time the Demons fell short.

The K&S Fuels Player of the Week for round six goes to Moretti for his efforts in front of goals on his return to the competition.
