CENTRALS 10 d INTER CFC 1

WITH the wind at its back in the first half, Centrals took advantage of the conditions to establish an early lead in its solid win over Inter CFC in their Under 16 meeting.

A corner taken from Kate Seaton found Alex Jolley sitting on the goal line to put the ball in the back of the net within the first two minutes of play.

Centrals continued to dominate and forced Inter goal keeper Katie Armstrong to pull off some good saves to keep her team in the game.

At the nine-minute mark Centrals bought the ball up from defence where Jolley again slotted the ball through for her second of seven goals.

Good defensive work from Inter’s Naomi Zwijnenburg and Kirra Schultz held off further attempts for a time, but around the 17-minute mark the floodgates opened.

Centrals banged through three goals in quick succession, while an Inter clearance from defence saw an own goal add to the tally.

Another two goals were scored before half time, as Jolley scored her fourth and Seaton slotted her second.

With an 8-0 advantage at half time, Centrals sat in the box seat for an easy victory.

Inter opened the second half with a goal from Ella Doody, but that was to be the team’s only success for the day.

Centrals responded immediately from the restart and Jolley converted her sixth goal after a good pass from Seaton.

Leonie Robertson scored her first goal five minutes later to see the score at 10-1.

Another two goals were scored before full time, to hand Centrals a convincing 11-goal victory.

The first half of the game saw Millicent unable to find its feet.

However, as the game progressed, communication and ball use improved, which saw Millicent able to push the ball down the pitch into its attacking half.

Lana Shepherd managed to convert Millicent’s only goal, while Evany Rex led the way for Apollo with four.

Emily Edwards, Olivia Gwilym and Rhianna Shelton rounded out the scorers for the victors with one goal each.

APOLLO CITY d MILLICENT

THE first Under 13 game of the South East Women’s Football Association season saw a young Millicent take on a strong Apollo City outfit.

With three players completely new to the sport and another with just a few games under her belt, Millicent looked to the leadership from the two more experienced players.

They stepped up and led their team well, but Apollo took advantage of the early stages to hit the scoreboard.

The second half saw greater confidence from the inexperienced Millicent side, but players ran out of legs late in the game.

A goal to Lana Shepherd midway through the half provided a boost, but Apollo was too strong on the day.
