ROUND three of Western Border football certainly provided some food for thought regarding the remainder of the season.

The big shock was the huge loss to South Gambier.

The Demons were always going to struggle this season, despite an opening-round victory over Casterton Sandford.

West Gambier has been on the improve, but the 96-point margin was something few would have predicted.

The impressive thing for the Roos was there were no big bags of goals kicked, with Jett Attard topping the list with four.

The rest were shared around, with the Demons unable to stop the running Roos.

North Gambier chalked up its third win of the season to remain undefeated so far.

Again it came on the back of a seven-goal haul to coach Justin McConnell.

McConnell has certainly left his mark on the season already since returning this year.

The impressive part is the delivery which is now streaming forward through the Tigers’ running players, something which has been missing, especially last year.

It makes for an interesting season if McConnell can continue to take marks inside 50 and convert.

The opening game of the split round saw Millicent go down to Casterton Sandford up at McLaughlin Park.

The Saints were also expected to struggle this season and are yet to record a win.

However, a shining light was the five goals kicked by Sam Willis.

He finally found the form which served him so well last year, even in a losing game, with the majority of the Saints’ seven major scores.

For that effort he receives the honours this round as the K&S Fuels Player of the Week.
