JOB WELL DUNN: Veteran Millicent netballer Hayley Dunn (centre) played her 300th senior game in the Western Border Netball Association against Casterton Sandford at McLaughlin Park last round and enjoys the milestone with her family, Kynan, Tallan, Kalani and David Dunn before she runs onto the court.

MILLICENT defender Hayley Dunn notched up her 300th senior game for the Saints in the Western Border Netball Association in round three against Casterton-Sandford at McLaughlin Park.

Dunn’s netball career dates back to her debut season as an Under 15 in 1990, when the side reached the grand final.

But plenty of success followed in the next season, with a premiership and a runner-up best and fairest.

These impressive performances saw her make her senior debut just one year later, in what is now the A Reserves competition, before earning A Grade selection in 1993.

Under the guidance of coaches Di Facey and Michelle Skeer, Dunn developed into the defender she is today, utilising her height and strength.

Dunn’s success has seen her become the premier goal keeper in the Western Border competition for the past 12 years, with consecutive selections in the league’s team of the year.

She has grown to be a senior figure at the Saints, captaining the A Grade side for the past decade and enjoying a stint as club secretary for three years.

Dunn has played an integral role in all her 12 premiership teams – 2006 and 2007, then from 2009 through to 2018.

In the 2010 and 2012 grand finals she was awarded best on court honours.

During that time she has also picked up four runner-up club best and fairest awards in 2006, 2014, 2017 and 2018.

Dunn has also achieved feats outside of the Western Border Association.

In 1995 she played for the Adelaide Cougars and won selection in both the Under 19 and Under 21 South Australian State teams.

In 1999, she moved to Sydney for employment and continued her state league career in the New South Wales competition.

It was not until 2005, when Dunn was lured back to the Saints from close friend and long time team mate Donna Denton.

In Dunn’s first full season back at Millicent in 2006 the Saints clinched their fifth title and have won 12 in the last 13 years.

Dunn has played in several Western Border Under 15 and 17 title winning teams at the SA Country and Victorian Association Championships and has been part of all three SA Country

Championship winning Western Border A Grade line-ups in 2011, 2015 and 2017.

For the past two seasons, Dunn has coached the Under 11 team which has thrived under her leadership, while this year she stepped up to join Denton to coach a young A Grade side.

Dunn has grown to be the general at the defensive end of the court for the Saints and is a great role model for aspiring netballers in the WBNA.
