SOFTEST OF CUP VICTORIES: The Warrnambool trained galloper Nashville Sound is eased down near the post by jockey Raquel Clark to register the easiest of victories in last Sunday’s Penola cup.

EVEN before racing started at Penola on Sunday, it was generally acknowledged Adelaide based apprentice Raquel Clark was the best jockey riding at the meeting.

Clark well and truly confirmed that line of thought with a treble on the eight race program, including success in the feature race of the day.

Before racing starting, Clark was seen walking the track to ascertain where the better going was, even though the track had been rated a Good 4.

From her observations, Clark deemed the going was better wide out on the track in the home straight following morning showers.

The star apprentice was spot on with her assessment as all her winners, starting with her first ride for the day on Tomahawk Lad in race two, came down the outside section over the final 400 metres.

Following race three, stewards duly down graded the track reading to a Soft 5.

Sharing multiple success on the day were Warrnambool trainer Daniel Bowman and senior Adelaide jockey Jeff Maund, both with doubles.

Penola racing club president Mark Edwards was very satisfied with the attendance for Penola cup day.

“The showers which fell this morning would have caused some people to have second thoughts about attending,” Edwards commented.

Very good support from the Penola community, including the local football club, saw a bigger crowd than for the recent Millicent cup day meeting at the same venue.
