THE Mount Gambier Bowls Club Blue team won the open mid week pennant bowls premiership with a grand final victory against Port MacDonnell Red at Mount Gambier RSL Bowling Club on Monday.

Mount Gambier Blue’s 48-40 victory was an unexpected one, as it headed into the decider as the underdog.

Port MacDonnell Red had been the dominant side of the competition after it finished the minor round season with a clear margin at the top of the ladder and also won the most recent clash between the two sides 42-37.

However, the Mount Gambier Blue team performed when it counted to take the title.

The pennant bowls season will conclude today with the Friday pennant bowls grand final between Port MacDonnell and Millicent Blue at Beachport.
