WHEN Beachport Surf Lifesaving Club vice president Ben Treloar put the call out he was looking to buy a second-hand barbecue for the club, he did not expect what followed.

“I received a phone call from a lady who would like to remain anonymous advising she had ordered and paid for a new six burner barbecue and new gas bottle for the club and we could pick it up from a store in Millicent,” Treloar said.

He said club members are overwhelmed by the generosity of this anonymous donor.

“A simple thing like having a barbecue with other club members is all part of building a strong club culture,” Treloar said.

Beachport Surf Lifesaving Club provided beach patrols every weekend in January and have had record numbers attend Nippers and Youth sessions this season, with the last session occurring in February.

The club welcomes all new enquiries for next season.
