NAMES such as Norton, BSA, Triumph, Ducati and Ariel – among many Japanese bikes – were all on show at McNamara Park on the weekend for the running of the Classic Master of Mac Park.

Hosted by the Mount Gambier Motorcycle Club, large fields were assembled for the various classes, with some immaculately turned out machinery.

Everything from the wild to the wonderful graced the circuit and while many bikes – or indeed sidecar outfits – were a rare commodity, there was no shortage of action on display.

The Period 6 feature race saw Japanese machinery to the fore, with Robert Ruwoldt too strong on his 750cc Kawasaki, with a margin of more than 10 seconds and the fastest lap at 1:20.133.

Christian Charlton brought his 250cc Suzuki home in second place, ahead of David Short on a 125cc Honda.

The F2 Sidecar feature was an entertaining affair, with Mick Alton and John Bonney home first on a 600cc Suzuki outfit, but by less than half a second to Terry Goldie and Jamie Cross aboard another Suzuki.

Darryl Rayner and Wendy Campbell rounded out the placings on their 600cc Honda.

Lachlan Hill showed plenty of pace on his 125cc Aprilia Rotax machine to claim the Modern 125 feature by more than five seconds, also setting the fastest lap along the way of 1:16.52 seconds.

Declan Carberry crossed the line in second place on his Honda, with Brendan Darcy well clear of the next runner to round out the placings.

Large margins were also the result in the Period 4 feature, with Christian Carlson a clear winner on his 500cc Suzuki.

Robin Williams brought his CB 500 Honda home in second, ahead of Garth Williams on a 500cc Suzuki.

Period 5 saw Robert Ruwoldt claim the honours on his immaculate 1200cc Harris Kawasaki, with daylight to second place.

He also set a blistering 1:17.14 lap time, three seconds faster than any other rider in the field.

Dean Castleton was second on an 1100 Honda, ahead of Denis Ackland on a MKII Kawasaki.

Period 3 saw some real classic machinery on display, with host club member Darren Trotter a clear winner on a 650cc G50 Manx.

Russell Craddock brought his Triel home in second, some 10 seconds in arrears, with a comfortable margin to Keith Campbell’s CB77 500cc Honda.

A melting pot of machinery headed out for the Period 3-5 and Trails Sidecar feature, but Mount Gambier’s Stephen and David Jones were too good for the remainder of the field, clear victors on an 1100cc Suzuki.

Patrick and Chrissie Clancy crossed the line in second place, ahead of another Mount Gambier pairing of Adrian van Uitert and Mark Holloway.

The 125 Classic/Class C/Period 2 feature saw three 125cc Hondas fill the podium, with David Short claiming the honours, ahead of Steven Darcy and John Sedy.

For other Limestone Coast hopefuls, Rob Day and Andrew Saunders both suffered mechanical issues.
