THE round 10 Barber Shield clash between East Gambier and South Gambier remains up for grabs, with neither team able to make an impact with the bat on Saturday.

The Bulldogs posted just 116 runs and their innings was all wrapped up in the 48th over, while the Demons sit on an overnight score of 4/44.

Once again it was the efforts of captain Dion Stratford which saved East from embarrassment, with his 36 runs the best for the day.

He opened with Darren Whitehorn, who was judged lbw with the total at three and sent back to the bench with two runs to his name.

Youngster Connor Little then padded up and the Bulldogs found a little rhythm, with the total at 34 before he was caught off an Adam Kuhl delivery for 11.

Stratford remained strong at the crease, while Alex Hentschke (3) and Peter Kerr (0) came and went without too much fuss.

The total was at 62 when Stratford was caught and bowled in stylish fashion by Dylan Clough, leaving Nathan Gore to join Emerson Marks at the crease.

Just 13 runs were added before Marks was sent back to the shed for 13, while Gore lasted a further five runs before he returned to the bench on six.

That left Ben Clark and Simon Golebiowski at the stumps, with the pair steadying the ship somewhat to add 37 runs to the total.

Golebiowski was bowled by Kuhl for 16, with the total at 107, while Alec Roberts joined Clark for a brief partnership.

Just eight runs were added before Roberts was bowled by Camron Jorgenson for four, with Liam Turley next to bat.

His stint was even shorter, as Clark was dismissed a run later, caught by Luke Zadow off Jorgenson to end the Bulldogs’ batting innings.

With the ball, Jorgenson and Clough finished with three wickets each, while Kuhl and Daniel Loupos both claimed two scalps.

The Demons then padded up and batted out the day, dropping four wickets, with Josh Thompson (10 not out) the only double-figure score.

Hentschke was in fine form with the ball to return figures of 3/16 from his 12 overs, while Golebiowski claimed the remaining wicket.

South has plenty of work to do in day two this Saturday if it is to take the win and carry confidence into the semi finals, while the Bulldogs will be eager to finish the job early should the game not be called off due to the hot weather forecast.
