WARRIORS BLUE 10 d CONCORDES UNITED 3

ROUND 13 of the Mount Gambier Softball Association began with a commanding victory for Warriors Blue over Concordes United.

Despite the one-sided result it was actually Concordes who dictated the early stages with the bat after Dana Jones, Julie Beck, Melissa Brodie, Brandi Miller and Billie Jones all hit strong in the opening innings.

However their inexperience in the field proved costly as they allowed plenty of Warriors runners to ease to the bases with two safe hits each to Jenna Burston and Nicole Vause, which changed the lead.

After a scratchy start Leyna Bruggemann hit her straps for Warriors and ended up striking out seven batters over five innings to wrap up a dominant Warriors Blue display.

WANDERERS 8 d WARRIORS WHITE 5

A PERFECTLY placed home run from Jessica Hillman ensured Warriors White began swiftly in their clash against the Wanderers.
The runs continued to flow when it was the Wanderers turn to bat, courtesy of consecutive hits from Fiona Finch, Jo Hart and Sarah Moretti to put four runs on the board.

Later a safe hit off the bat of Trish Seager combined with quick base running saw Wanderers extend their advantage to five runs.

After struggling against Wanderers pitcher Cathy Whiting, Warriors came back hard in the next innings to peg the difference down to two.

But a final inning Finch home run iced the contest for the Wanderers who won by three runs.

DEMONS 9 d CONCORDES WHITE 4

THE last game saw ladder-leaders Demons take on Concordes White who were both missing key players for the encounter.

The Demons showed their hand early after they scored three runs thanks to consecutive safe hits from Isabella Morale, Kelly Cawthorne and a Cody Manning two-bagger.

A lead-off single to Jo Hopgood began Concordes reply which was denied thanks to an excellent double play from Manning.

Despite safe hits to Tylar Kennett and Kia Hansen, Concordes White could not break free as the Demons batters continued to compile the runs which saw the scoreboard rise to a 9-1 lead.

This prompted a Concordes pitching change which paid off as the slower pace of Hopgood and excellent outfield support from Linda Dodds and Emily Sutherland held Demons scoreless for the remainder of the game.

Demons also changed pitchers only to concede three runs, but it was too little, too late for the Concordes who lost to the Demons 9-4.
