THE Penola High School open boys cricket team began its season with a solid win against Grant High School recently.

Penola was forced to field first after Grant High School won the toss, but it did not take long for the first wicket to fall with James Foggo capturing the first of his two scalps.

The Penola fielders were in a vibrant mood as Ryan Zerk took 3/23 to cut through Grant’s middle order.

Sam Gartner and Ty Dinnison both claimed two wickets each to clean up tail and bowl out Grant High School for a small total of 102 runs.

Penola’s run chase began with a strong start from opening pair Jacob Robbie and Sam Klemm.

The duo scored multiple boundaries to lead their side into a strong position before Klemm was caught out for 45.

Robbie continued on his way to score 34 runs, while Jesse Martin was the only other batsman to score double figures with 12 as Penola chased down the small target to score the win.

Penola’s round two match in the open boys cricket competition will be played against Millicent High School in the near future.
