Western Border grand final date changes

CHANGES MADE: The Western Border Football League has made changes to the dates of its 2019 draw.

THE Western Border Football League has revised its 2019 draw.

The grand final will now take place on September 14 at McLaughlin Park at Millicent.

Millicent Football Netball Club president Joel Redman has confirmed the change.

According to footy insiders, the original date of September 21 would have clashed with the Mid South East season decider which has been earmarked for “Mick” and Jean Walker Oval at Mount Burr.

The Kowree Naracoorte Tatiara grand finals will be played at Penola on September 14.

It means that Wattle Range Council area will be hosting three grand finals at three venues and this is a first for councils in South Australia.

The much-awaited 2018 grand final re-match takes place in Round 2 between East and Millicent at McDonald Park.

At this early stage it appears the Saints could struggle to keep pace with the Bulldogs in that match with 20-year-old premiership player Blake Kenny departing the Saints to join the Australian Regular Army.

As previously reported, the usual Western Border byes are present for 2019, along with the annual Anzac Day clash between North Gambier and South Gambier.

That game will take place at Vansittart Park in 2019 on the Thursday, with the remaining two matches on the Saturday.

After six rounds of competition a bye is scheduled for the SE Zone carnival on June 8, with another bye after Round 10 on July 13 for the State Country Championships at Port Pirie.

The finals begin on August 31, with East Gambier to host the first semi-final.
