State championships run swimmingly

RECORD BREAKERS: The 16 and Under girls relay team of Ashleigh Spicer, Alaska Lipscombe, Hayley Pearson and Nicole Moran broke both the SA Country Championship and the SA Country record for their impressive gold medal performance.

A CONTINGENT of 16 swimmers from Blue Lake Y Swim Club competed at the South Australian Country Championships and Superfish in Port Pirie earlier this month, returning home with some impressive results.

WEIGHED DOWN: Thomas Bignell was weighed down by his impressive medal haul at the SA Country Swimming Championships.

Nicole Moran won the Papple Trophy for the best female between 16 and 18 years old at the Country Championships, with 89 points to top her age group.

The boys were also well represented when Thomas Bignell broke the SA Country Championship record in the 14-year-old 50-metre breaststroke.

The 16 and Under female 200-metre medley relay team consisting of Ashleigh Spicer, Alaska Lipscombe, Hayley Pearson and Nicole Moran won gold and broke both the SA Country Championship and SA Country record.

The open female 400-metre medley relay team saw Pearson, Moran, plus Jaime and Ashleigh Spicer win gold and receive the John Faux trophy.

Many swimmers had podium finishes and competed in finals and a few swimmers competed in regional relays, with strong results in these events too.

Nicholas Bignell competed in the 12 and Under male 200-metre freestyle regional relay and came second, while Ella McShane finishing third in the regional 18 and Under female 200-metre freestyle regional relay.

In all over 40 medals were brought home by Blue Lake Y swimmers.

Nicole Moran: 1st – 16-17yo 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 100m freestyle, 100m butterfly; 2nd – 16-17yo 50m breaststroke; 3rd – 16-17yo 100m breaststroke, 50m backstroke.

Jamie Spicer: 1st – 16+ 400m freestyle, 16-17yo 100m backstroke, 16-17yo 50m backstroke; 2nd – 17+ 200m freestyle.

Thomas Bignell: 1st – 14yo 50m backstroke, 14yo 50m breaststroke; 2nd – Open 800m freestyle, Open 200m breaststroke, Open 200m backstroke, 14-15yo 400m freestyle, 14-15yo 100m

breaststroke, 14yo 50m freestyle, 14yo 50m butterfly, 13-14yo 200m freestyle; 3rd – 14-15yo 100m backstroke, 13-14yo 200m IM.

Aleisha Pearson: 1st – 12yo 50m backstroke; 2nd – 12yo 50m butterfly; 3rd – 12-13yo 100m backstroke.

Mia Kleinig: 2nd – 12yo 50m freestyle, 12yo 50m backstroke; 3rd – 12yo 50m breaststroke.

Haydn Lowe: 2nd – 10-11yo 50m freestyle; 3rd – 10-11yo 100m backstroke.

Ashleigh Spicer: 2nd – 15yo 50m breaststroke.

Hayley Pearson: 3rd – 15yo 50m freestyle, 15yo 50m butterfly, 15yo 50m breaststroke.

STAND OUT: Blue Lake Y Swim Club’s Nicole Moran won the Papple trophy for most points in the 16-18-year-old female category.

12&U Female 200m freestyle and 200m Medley relays: Annabelle Solomons, Mia Kleinig, Aleisha Pearson, Mikayla Pearson – 2nd in both.

16&U Female 200m freestyle relay: Nicole Moran, Alaska Lipscombe, Hayley Pearson, Ash Spicer – 2nd.

16&U Female 200m Medley relay: Ash Spicer, Alaska Lipscombe, Hayley Pearson, Nicole Moran – 1st (SA Country Championship and SA Country Record).

Open Female 400m Medley relay: Hayley Pearson, Jaime Spicer, Ash Spicer, Nicole Moran – 1st.

Open Female 400m freestyle relay: Hayley Pearson, Nicole Moran, Jaime Spicer, Alaska Lipscombe – 2nd.
