READY TO CHASE: South Gambier’s Robert Drenthen will look for a solid innings with the bat when the demons chase Mil Lel’s day one total of 152 runs at Frew Park tomorrow.

MIL LEL is in with a fair chance to claim its second win of the Barber Shield cricket season when round seven resumes tomorrow at Frew Park.

Up against South Gambier, day one saw an average performance with the bat, with just 152 runs posted from 57 overs.

Six batsmen managed a start, with only Justin Lamont and Daniel Justin reaching 30.

Mil Lel was thwarted by the performance of Camron Jorgenson with the ball.

He ripped through the batting lineup to the tune of 6/39 off 17 overs, while Robert Drenthen and Dylan Clough shared the remaining four scalps.

It all looked dour for Mil Lel, but with the ball in hand they made an early impression.

Jorgenson, Nick Seager and Clough were all sent back to the shed before stumps, leaving the Demons floundering at 3/58 after 19 overs.

But South’s batting line-up does run deep, with the likes of Adam Kuhl, Luke Zadow and Robert Drenthen still waiting in the wings, along with Dane Pople and Daniel Loupos who can certainly hold up an end and find runs along the way.

The Demons will also want to find some form with the willow, with a trip across the border to Warrnambool on Sunday for the Sungold Twenty20 Cup.

Mil Lel will need to be focused as the Demons look to hone their skills, which could see a big total posted.

Last time the two sides met was in a one-day fixture, where South chased 188 in 40 overs.

They managed to reach that total to claim the honours, with Zadow, Kuhl and Drenthen top scoring for their side.

That puts South in a solid position to steady the ship and chase down the target, all while preparing for Sunday’s clash in Warrnambool.
