MILLICENT Magic will push hard to finish the minor season of the Country Basketball League season with a win, as it hosts the Geelong Supercats in the final round of the South West women’s competition.

The Magic has fought over second place on the ladder with the Horsham Lady Hornets for the latter half of the season and with this their final game before gearing up for finals, a win will be a must if they are to be guaranteed to hold position.

At this stage Horsham sits just one win behind in third and with a double header this week, have the potential to leapfrog the Magic should the Supercats prevail.

There is plenty of unknown surrounding the clash, with the last meeting between the sides back in the opening round of the season.

That game saw Geelong with a thrilling one-point victory.

Since then 11 rounds have been played and the Magic found their groove to work their way up the ladder.

After last week’s mixed results from a double header, Millicent will be out to make an impact and head into finals on a high note.

And with the talent in the roster it has the tools to do so.

Emily Winter and Olivia Fuller have led the charge this season, averaging 20 and 19 points a game respectively.

If one or both of them can fire again tomorrow afternoon the Magic will be a big step closer to success.

Laura Schultz was also in good form against the Colac Kookas last round, with her final three-pointer resulting in the win.

Backed up by the likes of Ashleigh Berman, Georgia Winter and Jesse Venn, who have all been consistent contributors in recent rounds and there will be no shortage of firepower on the court.

Back in round one, Geelong’s Georgia Varley did most of the damage with 22 points.

Although that stands as her highest score for the season, a consistent run sees her with an average of 14 points a game.

Chloe Skinner also played her part in the victory, with 17 points in the game and has also been consistent since.

They are two players Millicent will need to keep quiet to make the job easier.

At this point the Supercats sit in fifth on the ladder, but only by a slim percentage a and a close contest can be expected tomorrow.

Spectators should be treated to a good game of basketball to finish the minor season, with the match scheduled to kick off at 3pm at Peter Seebohm Stadium.
