WARRIORS WHITE 14 d CONCORDES UNITED 3

IN hot and steamy weather, Warriors White claimed a dominant 14-3 win over Concordes United in Round 6 of Mount Gambier softball at Blue Lake Sports Park on Saturday.

Played at the 1pm timeslot – before the heavens opened up in the 3pm game – both pitchers were off to good starts.

Erin Chaplin pitched a solid game to hold Concordes to just three runs, helped greatly by Taylor Wilsmore picking up two triple plays, which are virtually unheard of.

Unfortunately for Concordes it made some costly fielding errors, with Warriors taking full advantage and plating six runs in the fourth innings to put the game well out of reach.

Erin and Clare Chaplin, plus Jessica Hillman all crossed the plate three times each in solid performances for their team, while Zoe Crouch had a two-bagger.

Dana Jones and Julie Beck were best for Concordes with two safe hits each, but it was not enough to remain in touch.

DEMONS 15 d WANDERERS 2

THE other 1pm softball game on Saturday saw Demons continue its season form with a convincing 15-2 run win over Wanderers.

Wanderers started strong with two runs in the first inning, thanks to a good hit in the gap by youngster Emily Tsioutsiouklaris.

But from there on in it was one-way traffic as Demons launched a barrage of safe hits, which included a home run and a three-bagger to Montana Millard and two doubles to Cody Manning.

Millard also pitched accurately and was well supported in the field.

Fiona Finch was the best for Wanderers with three safe hits and a strong performance at short stop, but it was not meant to be as the league heavyweight continued to show its dominance.

WARRIORS BLUE 9 d CONCORDES WHITE 2

THE heavens turned dark and gloomy in the 3pm Mount Gambier softball game on Saturday, which saw Warriors Blue with a 9-2 win over Concordes White.

Concordes White started strongly against its opposition, with a quick three up, three down followed by Jo Hopgood crossing the home plate to give it the early lead.

However, Warriors bounced back with an impressive left-handed home run from Georgia Hood, who was a last-minute and very lucky inclusion for Warriors.

Warriors then had a silver patch to seal up the game, as it scored five runs to Concordes’ two.

Kelly Doyle played well at first base for Warriors after she was thrown in the deep end to play the position, while for Concordes Sam Brown pitched a good game in trying weather conditions, while also performing with the bat.

Imogen Walker pitched consistently for Warriors despite the rain and wind and helped her side run out the victors.
