DIVISION 1 – PORT MACDONNELL 64/14 d MOUNT GAMBIER RSL RED 36/2

PORT MacDonnell’s Division 1 open pennant team travelled to Mount Gambier RSL on Saturday for a win against the hosting Red side in Round 9.

Due to the weather conditions the full 25 ends were not played on all rinks, but the scores counted as they stood when play was called off.

Barbara Milstead, Joy Bilney, Heather Richards and Bill Richards met Dougal McPhail, Jamie Lambert, Chris Waugh and Rex Heins.

On that rink 20 ends were played with the Bay side down by seven shots on the 18th end.

It scored four more shots to finish the match only three shots down 18-21.

Greg Fisher, Tim Wrightson, Peter Bruhn and Adam Wilson played Robert Corner, Greg Whitehead, Dean Wilkinson and Andy Ashby on the second rink.

Only 19 ends were played with Port MacDonnell winning on 12 ends to RSL Red’s seven, in a tough day which saw the weather conditions prevail.

The result was a 16-8 shot victory for the Bay.

The final rink saw Wally Tarca, John Broadbent, Judy Grosvenor and Chris Richards face Andrew Simpson, Ralph Stafford, Michael Fox and Graham Ellis.

Richards’ rink was off to a solid start and was 12-0 up after seven ends.

They continued to forge ahead only allowing RSL to score on seven of the 23 ends played for a 30-7 shot win.

DIVISION 2 – MILLICENT 61/12 d PORT MACDONNELL 57/4

THE Division 2 Port MacDonnell side played at home against Millicent on Saturday, where it suffered a narrow four-shot defeat.

Despite wins on two of the three rinks it was not enough for the Bay, with Millicent returning home with the overall honours.

DIVISION 4 RED – BEACHPORT 64/14 d PORT MACDONNELL 49/2

IN the Division 4 Red open pennant competition, Port MacDonnell was unable to come away with the win when it hosted Beachport for Round 9.

The weather played havoc with games and not all ends were completed, with the

Bay winning one rink, but it was not enough to account for its guests.

Chris Lethlean, Justin Brown, Lance Fisher and Victor Perryman played Graham Tresize, Janet Lawrie and Lyn Smith.

Only 19 ends were played due to the conditions and although the home team was a little slow to find momentum, scored better to take a 23-15 win over Beachport.

On the second rink Darryl Sims, Bruce Bain, Danny Gaut and Bryan Feast went up against Ann Marie Goode, Brian Jolley and Jill Preston.

The game saw 23 ends played, with the visitors the stronger on the day and taking the win by 10 shots, 27-17.

Port MacDonnell’s fate was sealed when Roma Henderson, Peter Rutherford, Ben Tilley and Jennie Tilley took on Rob Schultz, Vic Bowman, Des Mutton and Angus McKenzie.

The Beachport side was able to score multiples, while the Bay was kept to singles, resulting in a 22-9 shot victory to the guests.

Meanwhile, Division 4 Blue’s Port MacDonnell team claimed thr win over Penola due to the latter’s forfeit.
