AFL draftee boasts regional ties

WHEN it comes to sport in Australia it can be a small world, especially at the elite level.

In the recent AFL draft it was noted a young Adelaide lad by the name of Jackson Hately was to head to the east coast as part of the GWS Giants squad.

Hately will join former Dartmoor player Jeremy Cameron at the club.

But in a more local scenario, Hately’s father Nick was a player in the early Pioneers basketball team.

Furthermore, his late grandfather Bill is a hall-of-famer for his work with the side.

Bill Hately was on the original Pioneers board and instrumental in bringing the club to fruition.

He was the initial link between the side and the late Allan Scott AO, OAM, who helped fund the fledgling club.

He was twice named administrator of the year by the league.

Jackson Hately was picked at number 14 by the Giants, after playing for Central Districts in the SANFL competition.

He is described as a tall, strong-bodied midfielder, who can also play across the half-forward line.

Hately won All Australian selection after impressive performances in the Under 18 championships for South Australia.
