THE Blue Lake BMX Club returned home from another fruitful representation at state level, when 20 riders made the trip to Warrnambool for the Victorian state titles over the weekend.

Of those riders, nine state plates were obtained, with some podium finishes among them.

The best result for the weekend saw youngster Lilly Jones bring home the 8 girls number one plate on Sunday, while father Stephen Jones also had a solid weekend to finish second in the 30-34 men’s class.

Young gun Jasmine Morgan was again a front runner and she brought home the number two plate for the 10 girls.

Alistair Scott rounded out the podium winners, as he finished third in the 40+ men’s retro class on Saturday.

Once again it was a rewarding trip for the Scott family, as Raine finished fifth in the 13 girls and Cedar and Mercedes both finished sixth in the 11 and 15 girls respectively.

Other plate winners were Cody Jelleff, who finished fifth in the 17 boys and Jaiden Picken, who came home with the number seven Vic plate in the 10 boys.

These results are a credit to the local riders and Blue Lake BMX Club coach Sallyanne Morgan was pleased to see plenty of plates come home from the event.

“It is Lilly Jones’ first year in competitive racing,” she said.

“She got second at the SA titles and went one better on the weekend, so that was really good.”

Morgan also reflected on Stephen Jones’ performance and stated he has been in fine form of late.

“He was riding really well on the weekend,” she said.

“He won all of his motos leading up to the finals.”

Morgan said the track was well presented and the weather was perfect, with a slight breeze taking the edge off Sunday’s hot forecast.

The representation from the club was strong compared to recent years, as the closeness of the facility attracted more riders.

“It was nice not to have to travel as much,” Morgan said.

“A lot of people go there and because it is not so far away you can go and practice whenever you want, it’s an open track.

“Usually we do not get that many at Vic titles, five or so usually.

“But being closer this year, it adds a bit more ease to it.”
Blue Lake riders will now look forward to the final club meetings for the year, before it breaks over Christmas.

The next big event on the calendar will be the Nationals in May, which are held in Shepparton for 2019 and Morgan expects some good representation at the event.
