WARRIORS WHITE 11 d WANDERERS 2

WARRIORS White proved too strong for its Wanderers opponent in Round 3 of Mount Gambier softball on Saturday.

A solid start for Warriors saw it score two runs through some good hitting from Jessica Hillman and Claire Chaplin.

Emily Tzioutziouklaris tried hard to get Wanderers off the mark, with a pop fly over the short stop’s head, but Warriors held firm and did not allow any runs over the plate.

Warriors continued to score well with Taylor Wilsmore returning from a season off.

Wilsmore combined well with Taylor Pearson and Daena Wombwell for a brilliant double play.

For Wanderers, Janaye Donaldson smashed the ball over the pitchers head to centre field and Jo Hart entered the game to score the team’s first run.

Sarah Moretti then quickly followed up with Wanderers’ second to put some pressure on Warriors.

However, Warriors held firm and eventually claimed the win by nine runs, with Erin Chaplin doing a good job on the pitching plate and with the bat.

WARRIORS BLUE 15 d CONCORDES UNITED 2

WARRIORS jumped out of the gates in the first innings to score five runs and set up a dominant win over Concordes United.

That initial heat was a response to Concordes’ single score in the top of the innings, as a result of Dana Jones combining with sister Billie Jones.

Warriors knuckled down in the field from there and allowed only four more base runners for the match.

Concordes’ Torren Pickles had a good hit up the middle, while Billie Jones, Brandi Miller and Emily Sutherland also hit well.

However, with a total of two runs for the match, Warriors claimed the points by 13.

Warriors’ Nicole Vause continued to show solid form with two more hits, while Raquel Sneath, Courtney Hanson and Leyna Bruggemann also managed two.

The victors revelled in a guest appearance by multiple Adelaide A Grade competition premiership player Amy Iljcesen, as well as Warriors’ legend Jenna Burston.

DEMONS 11 d CONCORDES WHITE 3

DEMONS continued its solid start to the season with a good win over Concordes White in the last game on Saturday.

The experience of the Demons’ batters shone through.

After a lopsided first innings, Concordes settled into the game and fielded well to make Demons work hard for its runs.

Sam Brown pitched well throughout, but could not stop an impressive hitting performance from Demons’ Kelly Cawthorne, who hit safely every time she went up to bat.

Montana Millard pitched well for Demons and stopped Concordes from scoring until the last innings, where it plated three runs to put a bit of pressure on the Demons’ fielders.

Linda Dodds hit safely twice and took a couple of good catches at left field for Concordes.

Cody Manning fielded well and had a magnet for the ball at shortstop for Demons and she led her side to an eventual 11-3 victory.
