Lakers challenge Portland with full roster

IN FORM: The Mount Gambier Lakers will look to continue their perfect start to the Count Basketball League season when they head across the border to face Portland Coasters on Sunday.

THE Mount Gambier Lakers are back on the road this weekend to contest Round 4 of the Country Basketball League South West conference.

The current ladder leaders head down to Portland on Sunday to face the Coasters, in what should be another victory.

So far the Lakers sit undefeated after four games, just ahead of Horsham Hornets, who have claimed three wins from three games.

Coach Kane de Wit expects a full roster for the first time this season, which should provide a real idea where the side sits.

The Coasters have played just one game this season where they suffered a big loss to the Hornets.

They went down by 26 points in Round 1, with only two players from a long list reaching double figures.

However, de Wit said earlier this week he would not take any team for granted at this stage of the season.

His own side had seen many changes, with players unavailable for certain games and expected other sides to be in a similar situation.

He suggested Portland could be a threat, should they hit their stride.

However, it is tough to see the Lakers go down after such a strong start to the season with such a disrupted roster.

Only the fourth-placed Geelong Supercats have provided any real resistance at this stage, with the other three games producing easy wins.

This is the last road game for the Lakers before a four-game run at home, with a couple of tough encounters in that block, including the Hornets and the third-placed Bellarine Storm.
