TENNIS players were greeted with fine conditions on Saturday for Round 2 of the Mount Gambier and District season.

This week in the Division 2 competition, all match-ups were won by convincing margins.

West Gambier Blue hosted Centrals for a 10 sets to two, while Glencoe Gold and Reidy Park had the closest game of the day, with the former claiming the points eight sets to four.

Suttontown Tigers was no match for Glencoe Maroon at Olympic Park, with the latter winning 12 sets to nil.

Another big win was had by West Gambier Red when it travelled to Mount Schank for a 10-2 victory.

At West Gambier, the hosts excelled in the singles to win every set.

The closest matches saw Jamie Higgins with a tight 7-5 win over Centrals’ Riley Burn, while Maggie Finnigan won against Caitlyn Poel in a tiebreak 7-6.

West Blue’s Mark Stutley, Matthew Charlton and Abbey Patzel all won their games 6-1, while a closer 6-4 result saw Jessica Stutley with the win over Centrals’ Jaslyn Poel.

In the doubles Centrals’ Burn and Noel Wood were able to win over Higgins and Charlton 7-6, while Caitlyn and Jaslyn Poel paired up for a 6-3 win over Finnigan and Jessica Stutley.

But that was the only success for the visitors and West Blue easily took the points for the round.

Despite a dominant performance in the doubles games, disappointing results in the singles saw Reidy Park unable to account for its Glencoe Gold hosts on Saturday.

The closest singles match saw Glencoe’s Eliza Cole with a 7-5 win over Tess Kensley.

However, the doubles were a different story, with the Reidy combination of Zayne Young and Nick Childs defeating Sam Auld and Mark Feetom 6-1.

Reidy’s Jayme Young and Madi Kelly recorded the same result, as did Glencoe’s Cole and Jo Mills.

However, that and a 7-5 win to Auld and David Cole were the only doubles successes for the hosts.

In the end though, the efforts in the singles was enough to take the overall honours.

It was a tough day at the office for Suttontown Tigers when it met Glencoe Maroon at Olympic Park.

The Tigers were unable to win a set, with the closest match the doubles clash between Suttontown’s Aimee McLaughlin and Molly Lennon, against Abbie Cocks and Jorja Mitchell.

Cocks and Mitchell won the game 6-4 and the final set count of 12-0 was a solid percentage boost for Glencoe.

The final match-up in Division 2 was between Mount Schank and West Gambier Red.

The Mount Schank hosts managed to win two sets in the doubles, but that was all they could muster on the day.

Bobby Laabadan tried his best in his clash with West’s Cooper Hodge, but went down 6-4 in the closest singles game.

The remaining victories for the guests were won convincingly and sees West Red remain at the top of the premiership ladder.
