A LATE dose of wintry weather did not deter keen bowlers from returning to the Mount Gambier Bowls Club greens recently for the Lower South East Bowls Association (LSEBA) season opener.

The 2017-18 pennant winners were presented with plaques, along with the championship victors.

Three tiers of government were represented at the event, with Federal Member for Barker Tony Pasin, Member for Mount Gambier Troy Bell and Mount Gambier Mayor Andrew Lee attending.

Association president Steve Carnellor officially opened the season, with life member Janet Lawrie placing the mat, Mayor Lee putting down the kitty and Mr Pasin rolling the first bowl.

Bowlers played two games of eight ends with three teams winning their two games.

LSEBA clubs are now preparing for the 2018-19 pennant season with many holding practice matches against each other.

Games start October 5 for the Women’s field and October 6 for the Open Saturday competition.
