Gavin reaches new Heights

RIGHT ON TARGET: Gavin Height set the bar in the Mount Gambier Gun Club’s monthly shoot on Saturday and is presented with the high gun award from president Andrew Hoare.

FINE FORM was demonstrated at the Mount Gambier Gun Club’s monthly competition recently.

Despite a few showers and winds, some perfect scores were still recorded on the day.

Gavin Height bested his fellow competitors to take out the high gun honours, with an overall score of 141/150 from the three events.

A 50-target balltrap championship was first up, which saw Darren Beyer shopot 45/50 to win A Grade from club president Andrew Hoare and Height, both on 44/50.

B Grade was won by Warren Lindner with 46/50, which saw him now upgraded to A Grade, while runner-up Tom Jenkins with 44/50 also received the promotion.

Trevor Wedding shot 38/50 to take the C Grade win from Scott Davis on 36/50.

The second event for the day was a 25-target pointscore championship.

The competition was keenly shot and Height claimed the AA Grade honours with a solid 74/75.

He was followed by Max Medhurst with 72/75, while Willis Jenkins (73/78) won A Grade from Wedding (70/78).

In B Grade it was Leon Fox with a score of 72/75 who claimed the victory, while runner-up was Gerald Bourchier on 65/75.

Ian McArthur topped C Grade with 66/75, ahead of Mick Rudd on 54/75.

A 25-target club continental championship was up next, which was hotly contested with shoot-offs required to ascertain winners.

After a long shoot-off, Dougal Simson claimed the overall and AA Grade honours with a perfect 50/50 from Don Pratt with 49/50.

Willis Jenkins scored 29/32 to narrowly win A Grade from Brian Jarrett with 28/32.

Fox upheld his form to score a perfect 25/25, giving him the B Grade win over Frank Kentish on 23/25.

In C Grade McArthur claimed another win with 23/25, followed again by Rudd on 25/28.

Members are reminded the Eastern Zone Carnival will be held at the Mount Gambier Gun Club on September 22 and 23, with three events each day.

Practice is available every Friday from 2.30pm to 6pm.
