Kalangadoo 55 d Robe 27

KALANGADOO netballers cemented their position as minor premiers in the Mid South East netball competition with a comfortable win over Robe on Saturday.

The final minor round of the season saw atrocious conditions, with rain and hail dampening the spectacle.

Robe welcomed back Halle Carter into their goal circle, while Kirsty Egan lined up again for Kalangadoo.

The game started off slow and shooting goals in the circulating strong winds was tough at both ends.

The defenders were able to get a touch on many balls and at the first quarter change Kalangadoo held the lead by seven goals to set the scene for a strong performance.

The weather calmed a little during the second quarter, which gave Kalangadoo a chance to play their usual game.

Jasmine Crosser was strong in defence, as her pressure created many turnovers.

At the half time break Kalangadoo has extended the lead to 15 goals and was on track for a big win to finish the home-and-away games.

The third quarter saw much of the same, although Kimberley Austin was consistent at rebounding for Robe along with both Kalangadoo’s defenders Crosser and Chloe Pratt.

During the last quarter the weather once again closed in and made all players work hard in attack to get the ball down court.

Carter went off with an injured ankle and Demi Carter stepped up into goal attack.

The last quarter saw Robe only lose by two goals, but by the final siren Kalangadoo claimed the win by 28.

Best Players for Kalangadoo were Crosser and Melissa Russell and for Robe, Austin and Kim Ross were given the nod.

Hatherleigh 54 d Kongorong 37

HATHERLEIGH did all it could in the final game to move up as minor premiers, but in the end it was not enough, despite a comfortable victory over Kongorong.

The Eagles started the game with a new goalie combination, with Demi Smith at goal shooter and Maddie Pulmer at goal attack.

Pulmer found her range early, which enabled the Eagles to score 14 goals in the first term.

Kongorong’s Kayla Earl and Shannon Schiedll worked hard in the mid court to keep the Hawks in touch, but the defensive efforts of Maddie Redman and Lara MacGregor made scoring difficult.

The second quarter was an even affair, with Roxy Gibson and Jessie Little stepping up in the defensive circle to keep the Eagles to just nine goals.

Kelsey Wight worked hard around the ring, where Smith was finding her range.

In the second half the Eagles increased their lead through their full court defensive pressure, forcing the Hawks into errors and converting with accuracy to take the match 54-37.

Best for the Eagles were Redman and Pulmer, while Earl and Little were best for Kongorong.

Tantanoola 57 d Mount Burr 51

IN a close game Tantanoola claimed the honours over Mount Burr, but not without a fight.

Youngseter Lucy Corman played her first A Grade game for Mount Burr in the absence of Kate Nowak, while at the other end of the court Emma Gould started strongly for Tantanoola, scoring the first three goals of the game.

Ebony Clark played her 150th senior game for the Mozzies and worked hard to settle.

The game went goal-for-goal after the Tigers’ initial three-goal start.

Tantanoola’s Kate Bromley and Olivia Fuller worked hard to curb Hayley Agnew and Clark’s influence in the goal circle, helping their team to a six-goal lead at the first break.

Mount Burr opened the second quarter well, with great defensive pressure from Ann Guyett and Sophie Wallis.

Youngsters on the wing in Mount Burr’s Lucy Corman and Tantanoola’s Victoria Lucas had a strong battle.

Agnew and Clark were on target, shooting at 100pc accuracy to close the gap.

The third quarter had a scrappy start, with both sides struggling to move the ball smoothly down court due to the defensive pressure by all players.

Tantanoola made changes to try to break away, but Laura Schultz controlled the centre for the Mozzies and continued to drive strongly down court.

Wallis continued to pick off any loose passes by Tantanoola.

Mount Burr worked hard to draw even during the quarter, but Tantanoola settled to pull away and extend the lead to nine goals at the final break.

The last quarter went goal-for-goal, with Mount Burr lifting to make the most of turnovers to shorten the margin early in the quarter.

However, Tantanoola managed to steady and lift its intensity to remain in the lead.

Wallis and Gould continued to work hard for position in the goal circle.

Gould remained a focal point and helped her side secure the win.

Mount Burr showed a fighting spirit to win the quarter, but eventually went down by six goals.

Glencoe 47 d Port Mac 29

ALL seasons were experienced by the Glencoe and Port MacDonnell for the last round of the home and away season.

Glencoe came out firing, with a different line up to the first time they faced the Demons.

Chelsea Tracey fed Chantelle Cocks well in her goal shooter position, a job made difficult by the Demons’ Isabelle Sneath and Jess Trench in defence.

Demons shooters Megan Hein and Cody Manning worked well in the ring, having the closest finish to the first quarter they have in a while.

The second quarter was much the same game, with both teams fighting hard to keep a close match.

Glencoe center Jenna Paproth drove strongly across the court, feeding her shooters well and directing play for her team, allowing them another 10 points to Port MacDonnell’s seven.

Junior Montanna Millard worked the ball down the court well for the Demon’s and complemented goal shooter Cody Manning.

The third quarter saw Glencoe find a good flow and dominate.

Shooters Chelsea Tracey and Chantelle Cocks worked the ball fast through their goal third and out score Port MacDonnell by nine goals.

Glencoe’s Kelly Coutts moved back into goal keeper, with her height a valuable addition to their defensive line.

Coming into the fourth quarter, Port MacDonnell has a big task ahead to keep the margin reasonable.

Megan Hein stepped up strongly, working the ball up the court and through the Demons’ attack line.

However, despite a strong finish by Port MacDonnell, Glencoe held on for a comfortable victory.

Jess Trench and Isabelle Sneath were best for the Demons, while Chantelle Cocks and Jenna Paproth were deemed best for Glencoe.
